Duties and accomplishments:
Responsible for providing all desktop and LAN service with PC and high-end
Macintosh workstations, Novell and Windows NT servers.
- Migrated all PC users and non-graphic Mac users to Windows 95.
- Replaced original Novell 3.1 network with a new system utilizing
IntraNetware 4.11 and NT 4.0, stabilizing the LAN to provide 99.7% server
availability during business hours.
- Installed IPX/IP gateway, MS Mail/GEIS gateway, RAS, and outgoing Internet
access.
- Installed network management software, providing centralized anti-virus,
inventory, metering, and software distribution for Macintoshes and PCs.
- Installed server control software permitting remote emergency network
support.
- Migrated the accounting system from hardwired terminals to PCs with LAN
access by installing a NetWare for SAA gateway and Hostprint.
- Built centralized tape library server for backup of all server and desktop
data, utilizing a dedicated backbone and ArcServe 6..
- Installed Microsoft Exchange 5.0 and migrated PCs and Macintoshes to
Exchange server.
- Provided remote e-mail access, using local dial-up ISP’s, to reduce out
of office long distance telephone charges.
- Designed and coordinated new network/telecom/power distribution systems
for a 50% office expansion and renovation of the remainder of the facility.
Relocated all workstations during the expansion and 60% of the renovation.
- Programmed and maintained multi-zone card access security system.
